Community help needed for fireworks funding

Several years ago, the Columbus Chamber was asked to make arrangements for the Fourth of July fireworks, with donations coming from the community. The Chamber board gladly took on the project for the community and it has been a challenge.

Graduating seniors at Columbus High School have been offered $711,000 in grants and scholarships to help offset the costs of continuing their education. The students have accepted $485,686 of those scholarships and $225,501 of the scholarships were not accepted by the students.

Stolen truck recovered from county strip pit

A 2006 Dodge truck reported stolen from Wichita in 2017 was recovered Friday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies. With the assistance of the Newton County, Mo., Dive team the vehicle was pulled from a strip pit located near Northwest 120th and Halllowell Road, near the Labette County line.
