ATM machine robbed at bank

After midnight early Friday morning, law enforcement was notified of the theft from the ATM at Columbus American Bank. The details of the robbery are sketchy as the case has been taken over by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after an initial investigation by the Columbus Police Department.

Kansas COVID virus death toll tops 5,000

As Kansas topped 5,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19 two more have succumbed to the virus in Cherokee County. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) reported 620 new COVID-19 cases since Wednesday. The state also reported four new deaths and 97 hospitalizations since Wednesday.

Deputies’ stops yield two stolen vehicles

Two stolen vehicles were recovered and four arrests were made in Cherokee county over the weekend. On Friday, April 30, Cherokee County Deputies were notified that a vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day from a property near Lowell.

Baccalaureate Services for the Columbus Unified High School Class of 2021 will feature Columbus Fire Chief Steven Burton as the speaker. The official beginning of the local graduation season the baccalaureate service is a completely student produced program.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Connie Louise Dunlap, 56, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of failure to appear and was released on $615 bail.
Columbus Mercy Hospital Auxiliary completed another successful pulled pork sandwich fundraiser despite changes being forced by the COVID pandemic. Several of the members recalled their days as car hops as they delivered the sandwiches to the cars. Working at the event were Edyth Tincknell, JaneAnn Turner, Janie Jarrett and LaDonna Smith. The customer was Gene Rockers.

Attendance limited at SE graduation

Attendance to Southeast High School has been limited due to advice by the Crawford County Health Department. Tickets will be needed for entry. Each Senior will receive 12 tickets for family and friends to attend. COVID mitigation strategies will be in place.

Kindergarten and first grade students at Park School were impressed by the street sweeper as they had the chance for up-close viewing. The Touch-a-Truck program gave the students a chance to start planning what they would like to do in the future.
