A one-vehicle accident occurred April 17 at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Gum Road three miles south of Joplin, Mo. A 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven a 17 year old female from Baxter Springs was traveling east when the vehicle slid off the right side of the roadway and struck a fence and a utility pole.

Route 66 logos refurbished

New Route 66 logos will be painted on the original highway through Galena, Riverton and Baxter Springs by the Kansas Route 66 Historic Byway commission. The Baxter Springs City Council approved the painting Tuesday evening and the Cherokee County highway department furnished the paint material.

Pavement markings to be replaced on Highway K7
