Every call requires dialing ten digits

Two telephone area codes in Kansas are part of a national program that will require all calls to be dialed with ten digits. The 620 area code in Cherokee County is one of those affected in the state and telephone users will be required dial all ten digits to make a call.

World Day of Prayer service is tonight

The World Day of Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 5th at the First Methodist Church located at 320 West Maple Street. The annual service is sponsored by the Columbus Community Service.

Street lights on Airport Drive okayed by council

A new street light will be installed at the end of the cul-de-sac at the west end of Airport Drive. The Columbus City Council approved the installation of the new light, as a safety matter and to prevent crime in the area.

Major is March 4-H member of month

Cherokee County 4-H has chosen their March member of the Month. Ben Major is 12 years Ben Major is 12 years old and is beginning his fifth year in 4-H. He is a member of the Lone Elm Beaver’s club and is currently club secretary.

The annual bean and soup feed sponsored by the Columbus Lions Club will be held Thursday, March 4. This year the event This year the event will be carryout and delivery only. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. for a donation of $6.

Freemans celebrate sixtieth anniversary

Richard and Bonnie Freeman lifetime residents of Columbus, celebrated 60 years of marriage February 14, 2021 with family and friends. On February 10, 1961 Richard Freeman and Bonnie Johnson were united in marriage at Columbus.

KDOT honors Brown for 20 years service

Kansas Department of Transportation recently announced that in March, Steven Brown, of Columbus will be celebrating 20 years of service with KDOT. Brown is an Equipment Operator Senior.
