Denzil Lee Thompson, 84 of Columbus, died Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at his home in Columbus. Born Monday, December 5, 1938 in Picher, Okla. Lee was the son of Lester and Ollie Hamilton. He worked for Koch Industries in the oil business and also served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Lee and Betty Robinson Thompson were united in marriage Friday 13, 1989 at Miami, Okla.
Lee was such a good storyteller. Lee loved raising farm animals, hunting, fishing and his pets. He also loved his friends and family. He had a passion for all the grandkids. He was an avid Oklahoma University fan and it was known that he was not to be disturbed during a game. He traveled often to watch the Pittsburg State University Gorillas. Lee enjoyed being a jokester, and teasing the grandkids. Lee was blessed with many family and friends. He loved those he worked with who called him, “chicken.” Lee had a special place in his heart for his classmates. He was a proud Veteran.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Ollie Thompson, two sisters, Eva Shutt and Ruth Gray; and a brother Bud Thompson.
Lee is survived by his children Robert and LaJeana Thompson and Sammantha; Rhonda and Rick Ross, Rhaven, Rikki and Ronna Martin; Rochelle Feist, Sydney and Sam and Kelsey; Leslie and Patrick Lackamp and Bill; Cheri Frolich, Jay and April, and Jessica and Sam Burdick; Stephanie Newberry and Greg Coffman, Derrick and Sarah N., Dustin Newberry; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are being handled through Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus. The family will receive friends Friday, June 16, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17 at Hosey Hill Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike McCoy, Bennie Lewis, Lloyd Coons, Rick Ross, and Robert Thompson.
