James Culp, 82, St. Paul

James Anthony Culp (Jim) 82 formerly of Eureka and Yates Center died peacefully at his home in St. Paul Thursday, June 1, 2023. Born May 29, 1941, in Evansville, Indiana Jim was one of twelve children. James was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Maybell Culp Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years Phyllis Culp of St. Paul; his daughters Belinda Culp of Burlington and Gail Wright (husband Danny) of Woodstock Georgia; his sons Matthew Culp (wife Rhonda) of Iola and Steven Culp (wife Melanie) of Galesburg; his sisters Dorothy Yeadon and Elizabeth Nuss; brother Ruben Culp; four grandchildren, Abbie, Jimmy, Brandi, and Mattisyn; three great grandchildren, Peyton, Emily and Daniel and several nieces and nephews.

James was a loving father and devoted husband. James married Phyllis in 1969 just 3 short weeks after they met. In 2001 after raising 6 kids James and Phyllis became empty nesters, from that moment on they spent time together traveling all over Southeast Kansas, watching movies, a Sunday drive around town and taking long walks to the park.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sons David (from a previous marriage), Brian and Michael Culp; brothers (Sonny, Herbert, Theodore, David, and Billy) and sisters (Jackie, Maybell, and Kathy).

James loved sharing stories of how his daughter Gail aged him to be over 400 years old and the time he and daughter Belinda broke the front porch on 4th of July. He loved reminiscing with Matthew about the family trip to Disney World where he successfully ordered a “never ending” glass of water. He also enjoyed going to the salvage yard with Steven and finding a treasure (or part) for the car he was working on at the time.

In his spare time, James could be found working on his car, reading the bible, building a picture puzzle, working on a cross word puzzle, or watching old western TV shows.
