Marc Nathan Schoonover, 43, of Cherry Valley, Calif., died May 29, 2023, at his home.
Born August 23, 1979, in Loma Linda, Calif., Marc was the youngest son of Cliff and Sharon (Hiatt) Schoonover. They preceded him in death. Marc was also preceded in death by his grandparents Orval and Roberta Hiatt formerly of Columbus.
Marc was the second twin born and always treated as the youngest brother even though the age gap between him and his brother Eric was measured in minutes.
Marc had three brothers although the oldest brother Jeff was met years later.
The twins were the center of attention always, you couldn’t help but be drawn in by them. “The boys” were their nickname in the family. Early on “The Boys” drove their parents crazy getting into everything as toddlers. Marc, in particular was fond of finishing his spaghetti, then quickly putting the bowl on his head and laughing hysterically when his mom and dad had to clean the mess up. They eventually put a stop to the shenanigans. Marc was a kind, caring and funny kid. He stood apart from his brother in some interests. He didn’t like to play sports for instance, but he and his brothers found ways to have fun together. As they got older, their interests diverged further but they could always find things to share with one another and most importantly laugh about together.
Humorous and authentic are how his brothers would describe his personality. He was genuine, unique and never afraid to say what was on his mind. This enabled him to build long lasting connections with people from all walks of life. Family was always important and he enjoyed being around everyone, it never felt like a complete family event if Marc wasn’t there.
Marc grew up and started his adult life with goals, dreams and married those with hard work to get what he wanted. He went to college, worked full time and earned his real estate license before he turned 21. Everything seemed to be heading in the right direction for him. Nothing would be more satisfying than to know that their little brother was beyond the pain and unhappiness, basking in the warmth and love he deserved in a better place than this world offered.
Marc is survived by his brothers, Jeff, Nathan and Eric all of California; and Uncle Larry Hiatt (wife Sharon) of Columbus along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Marc will be held Saturday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Wiefels Mortuary, 690 S. Vella Road in Palm Springs, Calif. An appetizer reception will be held following the service at LaQuinta, Brewing Company, 7414 Technology Dr., Palm Springs, Calif. Dress will be Hawaiian style.
