Helen F. Dahlin, 73, of Columbus, died at 2:35 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, at Oswego Health and Rehab, following an illness. Born February 27, 1950, in Columbus, Helen was the daughter of Alfred H and Ruth Veronica (Flanagan) Niggemann. She was a lifetime resident of Columbus.
Helen was a graduate of Cherokee County Rural High School with the class of 1968. She worked as a Pharmacy Tech. at Family Pharmacy for several years before working at Evan’s Pharmacy, until her retirement. She was of Catholic faith and attended St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus. Helen was an avid exercise enthusiast and taught workout classes for over 40 years including holding workout classes for the Titan football team one summer.
Helen and Wayne Huston were united in marriage June 9, 1967. He preceded her in death July 15, 1976. She later married Gary Dahlin May, 24 2002. He preceded her in death July 5, 2007.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Kari Soper, (Dewayne) and Kathi Ungeheuer (Kolby), both of Columbus and Keli Neeley (Vic), of Augusta; a brother, Joe Niggemann (Pat), of Columbus; and sister, Marie Driscol, of Lees Summit, Mo. Nine grandchildren, Kyle Robinson, Reagan Millis, Landin Knickerbocker, Ryleigh Poor, Keaton Schoech, Caleb Neeley, Cole Neeley, Kamryn Ungeheuer and Kolt Ungeheuer and one great-grandchild, Riggs Robinson also survive.
There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her family and attending the various sporting events they were involved in.
Graveside services were held, Thursday, June 22 at the Columbus Park Cemetery Pavilion. Father Larry Parker officiated. Honorary pallbearers were DeWayne Soper, Vic Neeley, Kolby Ungeheuer, Kolt Ungeheuer, Keaton Schoech and Cole Neeley. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, of Columbus.
