Emel Clarence Hess

Emel Clarence Hess, 87, of Owasso, Okla. died at home Saturday, June 24, 2023. Born August 16, 1935, in Manchester, Okla., Emel was the son of Oswald and Sarah Marie McClaflin Hess. They preceded him in death. Emel was also preceded in death by his wife, Glynis Hess, son, Jerry Hess, three brothers, Armester Hess, James Hess, and Walter Hess, and sister, Augusta Hess.

Emel served his country honorably with the United States Army for 22 years and did two tours in the Vietnam War. His decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Bronze Star Medal.

Emel and Glynis Patricia Garshina were united in marriage September 25, 1965, at Glenrock, New Jersey. She preceded him in death.

Emel attended the LifeChurch in Owasso, Okla. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes such as fishing, cooking and spending time in his garden. He dearly loved his family and was especially fond of his role of “Grampa” and “Boompa”. Those he leaves behind who hold many cherished memories include: Children; Debbie Rhein (husband John) Tina Hess widow of Jerry Hess, Nancy Dowd (husband Monte), Kenny Hess, Steve Hess (wife Mickie), Jeff Hess (wife Vickie), Butch Hess (wife Kathy); 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and his brother; Glenn Hess Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso, Okla.
