Betty Jeanne (Wilson) Fiihr, 97, of Columbus, died June 20, 2023 at her home. Born December 10, 1925, in Joplin, Mo., Betty was the daughter of Mark (Dee) Wilson and Winifred (Conrow) Wilson. She graduated from Duneweg, Mo. High School with the class of 1944.
After graduating from high school, Betty declined a scholarship to secretarial school and became the personal secretary for the Director of Social Services in Joplin, Mo. She remained at that job until her marriage to August S Fiihr December 17, 1948. They made their home in Carthage, Mo. until 1974, when they moved to Columbus.
In 1994, Betty became a paraprofessional for the Columbus High School Library. She retired in 2010. She continued to volunteer at the library until the end of the 2011 school year. Betty was a woman of faith and was known for her kindness, her manners and her wit.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sisters, Helen Neal and Louise Hood.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan, of Columbus.
A graveside service will be held at Osborne Cemetery in Joplin, Mo. July 25, at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at the home in Columbus from 12 noon until 2 p.m.
