Joyce Garritson, 83, Pittsburg

Joyce Marguerite Garritson, 83, of rural Pittsburg died June 29, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital following a brief illness. Born March 12, 1940, in Pittsburg, Joyce was the daughter of George Franklin and Maree Marguerite (Sparks) Jameson. Joyce and her twin sister, Joann, were the youngest of six children. She attended Cherokee Elementary and Cherokee High School. Following High School, Joyce went on to Cosmetology school in Pittsburg. After graduating, she worked as a hairdresser in both Parsons and Pittsburg.

Joyce and the love of her life, Donald Lee Garritson were united in marriage April 16, 1960, at Pittsburg. He preceded her in death May 23, 2019.

After raising a family, Joyce worked for 15 years at Miller’s Professional Imaging in the Film Processing Department. Joyce was a member of the Countryside Christian Church in Pittsburg for many years. She enjoyed the many friendships she made there as part of the congregation.

Joyce leaves behind her children, son Mark (Melanie) Garritson of San Clemente, Calif., daughter Mary Ann (Brent) York of Lawton; five grandchildren, Molly (Peter) Kempson, Matthew (Ally) Garritson, Walt (Heather) York, Will York and Wayne York; great-grandson Wyatt York; sister Flora (Tillie) Mason.

In addition to her parents and husband Don, Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers: George Jameson, Jr. and John Jameson, two sisters: Alfreda (Nan) Allen and Joanne Pesavento.

Joyce will be remembered by her family as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Joyce enjoyed embroidery, crochet, quilting, and other crafts. Her family members were often the recipients of her handiwork. Cooking and sewing were also a passion. She loved nature and spent many hours working in her garden, fishing, and enjoying the wildlife from her back deck.

Family will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Friday evening, July 14 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home. Pastor Don Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir.
