Bobby Dee Handshy (Bob), 76, of Columbus, died peacefully July 22, 2023 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 15, 1947, Bob by at home in rural Columbus, was the son of Clair and Ruth (Draeger) Handshy. They preceded him in death. Bob was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Bob and the love of his life, Cathy Skaggs were united in marriage January 14, 1966. They made their home in Columbus and remained there his entire life.
Bob was always a devout employee. As a young man, he became supervisor at Cameo Campers in Columbus, worked at Missouri Steel Mill in Joplin, Mo. and ended his work career spending over 25 years at Tamko Roofing, where he rose to Production Supervisor.
When Bob loved, he loved hard, and all those he loved were blessed. He was very well loved by his kids and grandkids, and was happily married for 57 years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cathy Handshy of the home; children: son, Bobby Handshy and wife Paula of Columbus and their two daughters, Lydia and Lilly Handshy; daughter, Mary Federico and husband Michael of Springhill and their three children, Erin Graw and husband Stefan and daughter Emily; Megan Hopper and Jordan and son Rowan, Trenton Willard; daughter, Susan Lacey and husband Hugh of Joplin, Mo. and their children, Nate Elmore and Whitney and their children Ayden and Lucas; Tyler Elmore and wife Victoria and Abbey Elmore; daughter, Diana Parmele and husband Dan of Springfield, Mo. and their children, Bella Parmele, Reese Parmele, Quinn Parmele, Halley Banning and husband Mitch.
Two brothers, Bud Handshy (wife Wendy) of Pittsburg and Stan Handshy (wife Kaylee) of New Braunfels, Texas; two sisters; Frieda Colbert of Baxter and Rebecca Doherty of Mt. Vernon, Mo.
Family will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, Friday evening July 28 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday July 29 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home.
