Patricia “Pat” Joan Kinder Roberts, of Baxter Springs died peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 20, 2023. Her final days were spent surrounded by her beloved family laughing and smiling. Born July 23, 1939, in Andover, Patricia was the daughter of Kenneth and Vivian (Boyer) Spence. She grew up in the Wichita area with her mother, grandmothers and brother (Dick). She graduated high school in 1956 from Derby High in Derby, Kansas. Following graduation, Patricia married Eldon Lee Kinder November 17, 1956 in El Dorado. Together they established their home in Baxter Springs.
During this time Eldon and Patricia were blessed with the birth of two daughters, Cheri in 1958 and Karen in 1962. Patricia devoted years to staying home with her daughters, but as the girls grew older Patricia decided to further her education. In 1971 Patricia enrolled in School of Nursing at Labette Technical College making a career of being an registered nurse. Patricia started her nursing career with Dr. Stephen J. Bazzano in Galena.
Patricia and Eldon were blessed with two grandchildren Stephanie and Casey which they spoiled lavishly. Patricia later in life accepted a position with USD 583 as a school nurse. During this time Patricia was able to care for Eldon till his passing of cancer.
In 2000 Patricia married Harold Roberts, together they enjoyed attending church or community events, bus trips to Branson or other places, spending time with family, working crossword puzzles and on projects together. Patricia was known for being a strong, caring, supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Patricia found joy in crocheting anything imaginable for her family, Beauty shop days, Wal-Mart trips, making “octopus and seaweed” meal or mush, sending homemade cards, playing army men, rides to the lake, checking on Banjo and being the volleyball team grandma. Patricia will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Patricia’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to her family and others that crossed her path in this life.
Patricia is survived by daughter Karen Kinder, of Grenola. Her grandchildren Stephanie (Mike) of Grenola and Casey (Delia) of Coffeyville. Great grandchildren: Laura, Lydia, Elizabeth, Stephen, Isabella and Conner. Sister-in-law, Geri Spencer of Washington State; Nephew, Rick (Lesile) Spencer; Cousin, Janet Sue Boyer.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Vivian (Boyer) Spencer; brother, Richard (Dick) Spencer; husbands, Eldon Kinder and Harold Roberts; daughter, Cheri (Kinder) Goff; son-in-law, Stephen Goff; granddaughter, Sarah Goff.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 26 at the Lowell Cemetery. Pastor Cody Graves will officiate. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
