Beverly Wilson

Beverly Joeen Wilson, 86, of Pittsburg, died Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Girard Medical Center. Born in Scammon, September 29, 1936, Beverly was the daughter of John Leroy Jr. and Mary Devlin Leroy. They preceded her in death. Beverly was also preceded in death by her brother John Leroy III and son-in-law George Michael Burns.

Beverly attended Scammon grade school and graduated from Cherokee County Rural High School with the class of 1954. Beverly attended Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, graduating in September 1957. On September 22, 1957 she married Raymond Eugene “Willie” Wilson at the Scammon Presbyterian Church. They moved to Girard where Beverly was a registered nurse at the Girard Hospital, later worked for Dr. Wesley Hall. She retired as a Headstart nurse for SEK-CAP. She was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Girard.

Beverly is survived by daughter, Mary Joeen Burns and son, Scott Eugene (Beth) Wilson both of Girard. Grandchildren, Seth Wilson of Girard, Heidi Burns of Lawrence, Adam (Brandy) Burns of Eudora, Maria (Chris) Walczak of Portland, Oregon and Eric Wilson of Corpus Christi, Texas; and great grandchildren Ansley Burns and Lennon Burns of Eudora.

Known as “Granmomma” to her family, Beverly loved attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and spending time at the family’s cabin at Crawford State Park (Farlington Lake).

Graveside services were held. Monday August 7 at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir. Pastor Kent Dorsey officiated.
