Nelson Cruz-Bones, Columbus

Nelson Cruz-Bones, 48 of Columbus, died suddenly Thursday, August 24, 2023. Born December 20, 1974, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Nelson was the son of Mariluz Cruz-Belbrus. He lived with her in Puerto Rico until around age 10 when he moved to the states, residing in Massachusetts. She preceded him in death.

In 2001, Nelson moved to the four-state area where he spent the rest of his life. He worked for Cunningham Sandblasting for 10 years, a job that was fitting for the thrill seeker that he was. Primarily, he sandblasted water towers. Among his hobbies, Nelson enjoyed collecting things. He had several collections, but especially enjoyed collecting all sorts of sports trading cards. He loved being outside, scrapping and spending time with his family.

Nelson’s is survived by his wife Tonya Kaye Davis, of the home; children: Johnathan Behrmann and Gabriel Bones both of Columbus, Nelson Bones Jr. of South Carolina, Nate Bones of Massachusetts, AJ Phillipi (Nayvin Bones) of Missouri, Chris Rosario and Lisa Marie Rosario both of Florida and Johnathan Rosario of South Dakota. Grandaughter Emilia Brianne Bones of South Carolina; along with several sisters and one brother.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
