Alice Marie Hickman Dixon, 88, formerly of Joplin, Mo., died Friday, May 19, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska following an unexpected illness. Born October 12, 1934 in Welch, Okla., Alice was the daughter of Theodore Clair Hickman and Mabel May Ellsworth Hickman. She graduated with the class of 1952 in Bluejacket, Okla. She lived a short time in Tulsa, Okla. and Chicago, Ill. before coming to Joplin, Mo. where she lived most of her life. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church of Joplin, Mo.
A homemaker, Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Alice and Joseph E. Dixon were united in marriage May 25, 1952, at Vinita, Okla. They have two daughters, Julie Brown of Galena, and Janet Ruiz of Omaha, Neb. They also have five grandchildren, Jason Ruiz, Becci Sutton, Mellie Ruiz, Justin Brown and Jared Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Connor, Aniya, Mason, Jolene, Zoe, Sadie, Jace and Levi. Her sister, Rama Jean Covey of Miami, Okla. also survives.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph; two sisters, Clara Belle Hickman and Shirley Darlene Hickman and two great-grandchildren, Baby Ruiz and Christian.
Graveside services are planned for Friday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, Okla.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
