Everett E. Barragar, 90, of Oswego, formerly of Parsons and Golden, Mo. died at 9:44 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Labette Health. Born February 26, 1933, in Independence, Everett was the son of Earl Jennings and Grace Mae (Stocker) Barragar. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, Allen Barragar; one brother; and three sisters.
As a young boy, Everett moved with his family to Oswego, where he grew up and attended school. He was a graduate of Oswego High School with the class of 1952.
Everett and Marilyn Joan Wheelen were united in marriage March 9, 1952, at Huntsville, Arkansas. She survives of the home.
In the early 1960’s, Everett moved to Parsons and for many years owned and operated a construction company. Throughout his life, he did a lot of concrete work and built many homes in the Parsons area. Upon retirement, Everett and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Golden, Mo. They enjoyed 25 years in the home he had built for them on Table Rock Lake in the Emerald Beach Addition, before returning to Oswego to be closer to family.
As a youth, Everett was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He also served in the United States Naval Reserves. For many years, Everett was involved in the Parsons Riding Club and served as its president for a time and often was the announcer at Showdeos. His favorite past times included riding horses, fishing, camping, riding four-wheelers and woodworking. He especially loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Everett is survived by his sons, Bruce Barragar (Linda) of Parsons, Craig Barragar (Debbie) of Mound Valley and Brice Barragar (Amy) of Riley and a daughter, Kay Walker (Bill) of Parsons.Ten grandchildren, Brent Barragar, Aaron Barragar, Shilo Walker, Cheyenne Walker, Cheynea Clifton, Angie Fogelman, Kristin Harlan, Brittnie Stevenson, Ashton Bailey, and Keaton Barragar; twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 28 at the Oswego Cemetery.
