James Henry Moss, 68, of Parsons, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, in Parsons. Born October 17, 1954, in Oswego, James was the son of Henry H. Moss Jr. and Catherine (Mickens) Moss. He lived in the area all of his life and was a member of Mason Chapel United Methodist Church.
James attended schools in Oswego. During high school years, he was active in football, basketball and track. After graduating with the class of 1972, James attended Labette Community College, and earned an Associates of Arts Degree. Over the years, James was employed at KG & E, of Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and the Parsons Youth Crisis Shelter.
Fishing was James’ favorite hobby. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing many many African Violets. He was an avid sports fan. He particularly enjoyed the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.
James was preceded in death by his mother Catherine; and brother Richard Moss.
James is survived by his father Henry; daughter Jessica Moss; son Ty Barber; sisters Debra Smith (Aaron) of Parsons and Karen Stewart of Aurora, Colorado. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego, Tuesday, August 8 from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Directly following the visitation, funeral services will be at 2 p.m. also at the funeral home.
