Maurice M. Scott, 90, of Scammon, died Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home. Born May 3, 1933, in Weir, Maurice was the son of Raymond and Nelle (Merrick) Scott. They preceded him in death. Maurice was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Wayne Scott, sister, Jean Wright, two brothers, Wallace Scott and Keith Scott. Maurice was a graduate of Cherokee County Community High School with the class of 1951. He lived in the Scammon area most of his life.
Maurice and Joyce Ann Ross were united in marriage May 19, 1956, at Columbus. She survives. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer all of his life and was an active member of the South Broadway Baptist Church of Pittsburg. In addition to his wife, Joyce Ann Scott, of the home, Maurice is survived by three children Janet Brooks (husband Steve) of Columbus, Warren Scott (wife Charlotte) of Scammon and Mark Scott (wife Debbie) of Wellington; and two siblings; Kent Scott and Lida Oney. Twelve grandchildren; Maranda Scott, Caleb Scott, Laura Froman, Luke Scott, Silas Scott, Samuel Scott, Ryan Wydick, Elizabeth Scott, Jacob Scott, Hannah Scott, Scott Brooks, Bree Stramel and nineteen great-grandchildren also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, June 29.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 30 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir. Pastor Dan Moss will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the New Pleasant View Baptist Cemetery with Military Honors.
