Titan Soccer begins season, 0-2

The Columbus Titan Soccer Team opened their 2022 season with a pair of tough losses. The squad fell to the Pittsburg Purple Dragon powerhouse, Tuesday, at the Titan Soccer Pitch on the Central School Campus. They came up short on the road at Chanute, August 30, 1-6.

Mini Titans open at Indy tomorrow

Columbus Mini Titan Football will open their season, tomorrow in Independence. The third and fourth grade team will play at 10 a.m. followed by the fifth and sixth grade team at noon. Games will be played at stadium at Riverside Park next door to the Independence Zoo.

Week one football contest results

Week one of the Kansas High School Football Season had six of the seven CNC League Teams facing off against each other. The highlight of the night was a 42-0, win for Baxter Springs over former CNC League opponent, Southeast. The win was their first in three years, breaking a 25-game losing streak.

Trojans sneak past Titans in opener

The Columbus Titans jumped out to a 9-0 lead against their rival, Girard Trojans, Friday at Titan Stadium only to suffer their first loss of the season, 15-- 20. Girard won the toss and deferred to the second half giving the Titans the ball to open the game and the season.

The St. Mary’s-Colgan Lady Panthers are well on their way to a repeat state championship with a sweep of the top five spots in the Columbus Invitational Golf Tournament, Thursday at the Brush Creek Golf Course.

Democrats plan meeting Thursday in Discovery Park

With the Campaign season kicking off, the Cherokee Democrats will be meeting in Columbus at the Discovery Park on the Southeast corner of Kansas and Pine in downtown Columbus at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 8.

Baxter Springs Lady Rams volleyball squad travels to Erie for quad match

The Lady Rams, and the Lady Lions volleyball squads traveled an hour away for a quad match, Thursday. Besides playing each other, they also faced Cherokee-Southeast and host, Erie. The Lady Rams made quick work of all three opponents taking big wins against each.

Titan of the Week

Titan Senior, Landin Midgett, took the field for the first time in a year after sitting out the 2021 season with an injury. He recorded a receiving touchdown and 14 tackles in the home opener against Girard, Friday, at Titan Stadium. He is being recognized as Titan of the Week.

Take your morning jog, walk or run with others Saturday, October 8 and join the Columbus Day 5K Run, Walk, and Jog. Start time is 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Pennsylvania and Pine on the west side of the square.

BHS Volleyball sweeps home opener

Baxter Springs Lady Lion Volleyball opened their 2022 season with two wins at home. It took extended play to overcome Liberal, Missouri, 27-25, in the second set. Baxter Springs won the first set 25-- 16 for the sweep.
