Mary Ellen Valentine, 81, Carthage, Mo., died Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Born on August 16, 1942, Mary Ellen was the daughter of Charles Hall and Vena (Oliver) Hall in Baxter Springs.

Randal D. Smith, 67, McCune, a swimming pool installer, died Thursday January 4, 2024 at his home in Mc-Cune. Arrangements are by Midland Cremation Society of Joplin.

Amber Marie Clagg

Amber Marie (Baugh) Clagg, 42, Riverton, died at her home in Riverton at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024. She fought a hard battle with cancer for two and a half years.

Eugene Ewers

Eugene Edward Ewers, 80, Carl Junction, Missouri, died January 8, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Born March 7, 1943 in St. Paul Neb., Gene was the son of Paul and Bernice (Burkman). He graduated from St. Paul High School and embarked on a lifelong career in the manufacturing industry.

Donald “Dean” Mc-Gown, 90, Frontenac, former longtime resident of Girard and McCune areas, died at 8:29 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburg. Born August 13, 1933, in McCune, Dean was the son of Clyde McPherson and Gladys Elizabeth Mullen McGown.

John Scott Gibson

John Scott Gibson, 76, Riverton passed away January 9, 2024 at his home. Born April 16, 1947, John was the son of Clifford and Ann (Anderson) Gibson. John grew up in Chanute. He graduated from High school and attended two years at Neosho County Community College in Chanute.
