Mini Titan sign ups fast approaching

The Columbus Mini Football League sign-ups are fast approaching. Players in third and fourth grade that are 11 or under on September 1 and fifth and sixth graders that are 13 and under can register and pickup gear on one of four dates beginning, Thursday, July 30.

The Columbus Cal Ripken 10U All-Stars finished their season as the Kansas District 5 Cal Ripken 10U Tournament Runners-up following a tough loss to the host team, Parsons, July 11. Columbus and Neodesha opened the three-team championship bracket play Friday night with a 6 p.m. start.

Columbus Titan Graduate, Landin Midgett, was recently named to the M.I.N.K (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) League All-Star Team at first base as one of six all-stars for the Joplin (Mo.) Jailbirds, a Summer Collegiate Baseball Team.

The Columbus Cal Ripken Rookies are the Kansas Cal Ripken 8U Rookie League State Runners-up after falling to Parsons in the best-of-three tournament, July 11-12 at the Columbus Community Field Ball Park. Jordy Foster received the WOW Award and Knox Crain was named the Most Valuable Player of the 4-15, Game 1 loss to Parsons.

Natalie Edmondson received the Oklahoma State University Out-of-State Achievement Scholarship in the amount of $7,000 during the Senior Assembly at Columbus Unified High School Gymnasium, May 15. The award was presented by Karen Langerot, USD 493 Instructor.

The Columbus Babe Ruth 13-16 Baseball Team captured the 2026 Kansas Babe Ruth District 5 Championship, Sunday, in Parsons. The team scored 30 runs in three games and allowed nine runs on their way to the title.The team opened with an 11-4 win in Game 2 over Humboldt.

The Columbus Cal Ripken 12 year-old All-Stars won the Kansas 12U (70’) District 5 Tournament Championship, Sunday, at the Columbus Community Field Ball Park.The team earned a berth to the Kansas State 12U Tournament, Thursday- Sunday at Hillsboro.

Athena Verren received recognition as a United States Marine Corps enlistee from Staff Sargent Brock, USMC and Staff Sargent Porter, USMC, during the Columbus Unified High School Senior Assembly, May 15, at the CUHS Gymnasium. Athena plans to be a motor transport operator.
