Concerned about the need to have expertise in zoning matters and selection of a company to prepare a Comprehensive Plan, the Cherokee County Planning Commission tentatively retained Milt Haas to help guide them.His employment contract must be approved by the Cherokee County Commissioners.

Club members to sell tickets as fundraiser

Keeping Up With The Lone Elm BeaversThe Lone Elm Beavers 4-H Club held their monthly meeting at 5 p.m. in the 4-H building March 30. This year 4-H members will be selling raffle tickets again like they did last year to raise money.

Serious injuries were sustained by an 18-year-old female in a car accident Monday, March 31.Eryn Annaliese Hosfelt of Baxter Springs was driving a 1999 Dodge Neon north on Southeast 50th near Southeast Beasley Road. Hosfelt departed the roadway to the left and struck a guardrail.

Christopher Todd Caton, 42, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of abuse of a child; shaking a child under the age of 18, aggravated battery; cause great bodily harm, endangering a child and assault and was released on $20,000 bail.

Labette County Jail Report

Elizabeth Lynn Duvall, 24, was arrested Wednesday by Oswego Police officers on charges of failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $548.50 bail.

Storm slashes through county

“I have received more than 150 reports of damage, from the Sunday morning storm and additionally a report from the Baxter Springs Fire Department said their wind gauge hit 85 miles an hour,” reported Matt Haviland, Emergency Management Director for Cherokee County.

County receives comprehensive plan

Two proposals for the Cherokee County Comprehensive Plan were opened by the Commissioners Monday morning.The proposals were for the research and preparing of the Comprehensive Plan in zoning of the county.
