Area Accident Report

A one-vehicle accident occurred Thursday north of Weir, near NE 30th and Eider Lane. A 2009 Chevy Silverado, driven by Devin Young of Weir, left the roadway and rolled. He refused to be transported by EMS. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Timothy Ray McDowell, 59, was arrested Sunday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of driving while suspended and transporting an open container and is being held in lieu of $2,000 bail.

The 2022 Rodeo Queen Montana Elmer was announced Sunday evening at the Columbus Rodeo Grounds. The Junior Royalty winner was Angelina Capron. This year’s rodeo was helped by near perfect weather.

Counterfeit $50’s circulating here

Reports of counterfeit bills in several denominations have been received in banking institutions in Columbus. Businesses have also reported having $50 bills being presented but they looked suspicious so they were refused.

Chamber Expo set for October

“Celebrate the possibilities,” Business Expo, sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce will be held October in the State Theatre, October 20. Fifteen vendors have already registered for the event. Several years ago, the community merchants combined for Columbus Expo’s for several years.
