Columbus Public Library Hours

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday 9 a.m-6 p.m. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 a.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon. Curbside service will be available upon request.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Shawn Diego Ellis, 51, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on two counts of failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Labette County Jail Report

Hannah Jane Jeffries, 28, was arrested Friday by Kansas Highway Patrol troopers on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was released on $1,608 bail.

During a scene in the drama presentation “It Might Get Loud” Eric Garcia, portraying Jesus, protects Madelyn Garcia from bad influences that were coming after her. The special drama was performed at Columbus Unified High School on Good Friday.

Retired school personnel hold luncheon

A salad luncheon was held by the Kansas Association Retired School Personnel (KARSP), Cherokee County Chapter, Wednesday, April 20 at the Columbus First United Methodist Church. President Pat Spriggs welcomed those in attendance.

Fundraiser planned for Brayden Pease

A fundraiser is planned May 1 for Brayden Pease. Pease is a first grade Columbus student who has been diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH). LCH is a rare cancer-like condition. Every three weeks the family travels to Kansas City for chemotherapy treatments.

Retired federal employees hold annual conference

The Kansas Chapter of Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, held their Annaual State Conference in Lindsborg April 24-26. Three Chapters in Area 2A, Chanute, Pittsburg and Bourbon County - Ft. Scott served as hosts at the Sundstrom Conference Center in Lindsborg.

Keenagers plan spring concert

“May Day and Music” is the title of the upcoming Keenagers Chorus spring concert. The group, under the direction of Scott Nelson, will perform a variety of musical numbers Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. at Spring River Assembly of God Church., 5946 3 rd St.
