Man injured in fall from local bridge

A 24 year old man fell Friday from Rainbow Bridge near Baxter Springs on Friday. Casey Wilson was reportedly climbing on the bridge Friday and fell from the historical Route 66 structure.

Cambrey Dan Dunnic, 22, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of domestic battery; knowing or reckless bodily harm and was released on $1,000 bail.

Weather doesn’t stop Columbus Bass Club first season tourney

In a fierce fishing competition, 10 of the area’s most able anglers competed for the Columbus Bass Club’s first fishing tournament of 2022 on Saturday. Of the five teams in attendance, cash prizes and shiny, metal plaques were awarded to the two winning teams.

Reservations required for Scottish Rite meeting

All members of the Southeast Kansas Scottish Rite are ask to attend the Stated Dinner and Meeting Thursday, February 3, at the Armstrong Masonic Lodge, 3105 North Joplin Street, Pittsburg. Social Hour begins at 5:30 p.m., Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. and the Meeting will start at approximately 7 p.

There will soon be a new Magistrate Judge on the bench in Cherokee County. Interviews by the 11 th Judicial Nominating Commission were held Thursday morning and Galena attorney Douglas Steele was ultimately chosen to fill the position that opened after the retirement of Samuel Marsh.

Galena students celebrate Kansas Day

With Kansas’s 161st birthday on Saturday, three kindergarten classes at Spring Grove Primary School got together to learn about the Sunflower state. Retired teacher Nancy Bash took it upon herself to present a fun, educational presentation about the state to the students on January 26.

Local magistrate judge is selected

After one contender withdrew from the running, the 11th Judicial Nominating Commission selected Attorney Douglas Steele from Galena as the newest district magistrate judge Thursday. “I’m thankful, I’m blessed and I’m very happy to be given this opportunity,” Steele said.
