Labette County Jail Report

Kaitlyn Nicole Chambers, 30, was arrested Tuesday by Kansas Department of Corrections on a parole violation and is being held without bail.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Timothy Lee Johnson, 51, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of criminal trespass and is being held in lieu of $1,000 bail.

Wildcat 4-H places high in contests

Wildcat 4-H livestock, meats, quiz bowl and skill-a-thon judging teams traveled to Kansas State University for the state 4-H sweepstakes contest over the weekend. Wildcat District 4-H is comprised of youth from Crawford, Labette, Montgomery and Wilson counties.

The annual United Mine Workers Union

The annual United Mine Workers Union retirees dinner was held recently at the Homer Cole Pittsburg Community Center. There has been no mining for the past 26 years but 40 people attended the meeting.

School bus drivers

School bus drivers are some of the busiest people, hauling students to and from school and on field trips. Some early bus drivers in the USD493 district included back row Lee Lauer, Bill Lampton, Charles Leonard, John McCullom and Lloyd Raymer.
