Spring is here and it’s time to get ready for the Cowtown Days Spring Fling. Cowtown Days has been a tradition in Baxter Springs since the days of the Centennial celebration in 1958.

Demo of school art building gets okay

Bid specifications are being let for the demolition of the former industrial arts building at the Columbus High School campus. The building most recently used as an art building has been vacated and utilities have been disconnected.

Community blood drive set Monday

As part of community clean up day Columbus High School students Mya Hamilton and Jade Ohmart were planting flowers in the flower boxes around the Columbus Square on Wednesday. Projects such as this were underway all around the city.

Area Accident Report

A one-vehicle accident occurred April 4 at approximately 5:57 p.m. A 2017 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Antonio Petre, 30, Columbus, was traveling west on Northwest Coalfield Road. Petre became distracted, slid past the stop sign at the T-intersection and struck a fence post.

Labette County Jail Report

Kathleen McGonegal, 53, was arrested Tuesday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of driving while suspended and vehicle liability insurance required and is being held in lieu of $685 bail.

Cherokee County Jail Report

William Wayne Gazaway, 36, was arrested Monday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and on a warrant and is being held in lieu of $6,000 bail.

Mercy Auxiliary pulled pork fundraiser Friday

A pulled pork drive thru fundraiser luncheon will be held Friday, April 16. Mercy Auxiliary of Columbus will be offering pulled pork sandwiches, chips and a cookie for a donation. The luncheon will be held at the St. Rose Parish Hall from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or until food runs out.
