Billy Dale Watson, Jr., 72, of Baxter Springs, died Thursday, July 14, 2022. Born July 8, 1950 in Holly, Colo., Billy was the son of Billy Dale and Clara (King) Watson. He had lived in Baxter Springs since 2005 moving from Ulysses. He served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam.

Douglas “Doug” Patrick Gilmore, 63, of Pittsburg, died unexpectedly July 15, 2022 at Kansas University Medical Center surrounded by family. Born November 9, 1958, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, Doug was the son of Thomas and Catherine (Grant) Gilmore. They preceded him in death.

Herschel Eck, 56, of rural Bartlett, died at 11:05 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of the home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, at Center Christian Church in rural Columbus. Burial will follow at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett.

Charles (Michael) Hostetler, 63, of rural Bartlett, died Friday, July. Born May 21, 1959, in Oklahoma, Mike was the son of Charles R Hostetler and Joyce Ann (Stout) Hostetler. Mike was a Gypsy at heart and 63 years on Earth was the longest time he spent in one place.

William Jack Goad, 82 of Galena died at 11:59 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022 after a short stay at Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Bentonville, Ark. September 21, 1939, William was the son of Nathan Jerome Goad and Alice Eugene (Potts) Goad.

Alyce A. Hanney, 98, of Pittsburg, died July 15, 2022 at Oakview Estates in Pittsburg. Born March 12, 1924 in Texas, Alyce was the daughter of Ernest and Mary Divin Homolac. They preceded her in death. She had been a resident of Pittsburg since 1989, moving from Stanley.

Catherine Marly Babcock, 68, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones Monday, June 27, 2022, in Los Angeles, California. Her children held her hands as she left this world. Born March 23, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minn., Catherine was the daughter of Edmund and Madolyn Babcock.

Catherine Taylor, 88, Arma

Catherine Taylor, 88, formerly of Pittsburg, died July 16, 2022, at the Arma Care Center in Arma, of an illness. Born May 9, 1934 in Mound City, Catherine was the daughter of James E. and Margaret M. Gorman Higgins. She attended Mound City Schools and graduated from Mound City High School.

Shirley Patterson, 78, Frontenac

Shirley J. Standley Helton Patterson, 78 of Frontenac, died July 12, 2022, at the Medicalodge of Frontenac. BORN November 18, 1943, in Weir, Shirley was the daughter of Ermine and Lila Mae (Gamble) Standley. Shirley was in the last class to graduate from Weir High School. She graduated in 1961.
