City water works employees were working on a water meter on South Pennsylvania Tuesday morning. Jeff Woods was guiding the hose while Justin Graham performed work on the meter. Crews have been keeping busy after the extremely cold temperatures in February caused some problems.

Six bridges on US 166 in Cherokee County will be replaced with construction scheduled to start Thursday, March 4, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The project area starts one-quarter mile east of the Labette-Cherokee county line and continues east for 2.3 miles.

A member of the Columbus Sports Hall of Fame is retiring from the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) on July 1. Cheryl Gleason, Assistant Executive Director of the KSHSAA, has announced her decision to retire.
